Count Your Many Blessings!

Whenever I get a bit whiny about how my life is so stressful, I've got so much to do, etc., something always happens to remind me of how lucky I am. Yesterday, my little boxer puppy was in the front yard with my husband and I when he saw a runner across the street. Despite our shouting, he ran across to greet him (he's always eager to meet and love on people). On the way over, he was hit by a minivan. I was so sure he would be run over and that would be it. Luckily, he collided with the side of the van, and except for a broken leg, slight bruising to his lungs, and some road rash, he's fine. We ran him straight to an urgent pet care center, and they were so reassuring and helpful! Not to mention expensive, but I'm glad we have access to such a close by center, and we'd do absolutely ANYTHING for our dogs. They're basically our children. The staff took some X-rays and put his leg in a splint and sent us home. Today we'll take him to our regular vet for a follow up visit. The break was a green break that should heal fast (about 4 weeks), and it barely missed his growth plate. I can't believe how blessed we are: Eli is alive, he doesn't need surgery, he's alive, he'll heal quickly, and he's alive. I am so humbled and touched by how mindful God is of my small family. We've already signed his "cast" (he's wearing a splint because he's still growing), and he's getting used to hobbling around on it like a pirate with a peg leg. I just love that boy!

Now, the other boy had started to have blood in his bathroom souvenirs lately, so earlier this week we took him to the vet. Aaron had read that it could be anything from parasites to canine cancer, and needless to say, we were worried sick. Luckily it turns out that he has stomach ulcers from the steroids he's on for his allergies. So the vet took him off those and gave him tons of medicine to help him get better. I can't tell you how blessed I am that these dogs have been watched over! Isn't it beautiful that Heavenly Father even looks after His dogs? I love that He misses no one! He's ever watchful and mindful of us all. Count your many blessings folks! Hopefully it doesn't take events like these to make you realize how blessed you are.

  1. Poor babies... I wish them full and speedy recovery. I am convinced that dogs are little angels send to us to make us better. I have three dogs (one of them is 150Lb. Newfoundland) and 5 cats (all rescued) and I know all too well how heartbreaking it can be when they get sick.Sending many wishes to them from New York. :-)
